County Cricket Club’s get behind the Macmillan Way Challenge

County Cricket Clubs up and down the country are joining forces this summer to help raise the £108,000 needed to fund two new Macmillan nurses.

Nine first class County Clubs have come together to donate a selection of exciting, one-off prizes for cricket fans. Prizes available include:

  • a private dinner for 10 in a Good Food Guide recognised London restaurant with former England Captain, David Gower (reserve price: £2,500)
  • a 1:1 coaching session with Gloucestershire First-X1 coach Richard Dawson
  • Signed bats and merchandise including a Yorkshire CCC bat signed by England Test Captain, Joe Root
  • Test, ODI and Test match tickets

The auction is being organised by South West law firm, BPE Solicitors and lifelong cricket fan and player, Rob Bryan, who lost his Mum to cancer.  Between 1st – 29th July, Rob and colleague, John Russell, will be walking the 297-mile Macmillan Way, from Boston in Lincolnshire, to Abbotsbury on the Dorset Coast, to help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The nine Clubs are also helping to raise money with bucket collections at key matches over the season.

All proceeds from the silent auction will go towards funding the training and employment of two new Macmillan nurses, each for a year. Macmillan nurses help nearly 600,000 people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support, but the NHS does not contribute to their cost during a nurse’s first year of employment.

You can help Rob reach his fundraising target by donating now. Rob is asking every reader to donate £2.97 (1 pence per mile), or more if they feel able.

With thanks to the following clubs: Leicestershire CCC, Nottinghamshire CCC, Northamptonshire CCC, Yorkshire CCC, Lancashire CCC, Gloucestershire CCC, Somerset CCC, Warwickshire CCC, Worcestershire CCC, Northampton Saints RFC.
